Following Your Intuition
February 8th, 2008, by Shelley Riutta
Do hear the voice of your intuition–or is it crowded out by all of the other thoughts you have in your head? Or do you hear the voice of your intuition but don’t follow it? Our intuition is our built in navigational system. It is designed to help us make decisions that will enable us to create an amazing, joyful life. Many people have gotten so used to ignoring the soft, gentle nudgings of their intuition and instead make decisions based on the thoughts in their head—what they think they “should” do. What has you intuition been telling you to do lately? See if you can tune into this and write it down. It might be a new message or something you have been hearing for a few years.
I am in Chicago at a training with Sonia Choquette, author of “Your Heart’s Desire” and “Trust Your Vibes”. Yesterday she had us do an exercise of tuning into our intuitive messages and making a plan to put these into action. It was amazing as she went around the room–asking the different people in the class what their intuition was telling them and how long they had been getting this message. Many people had been getting the intuitive message to do a certain thing for years! It just really showed me how much we have all been trained to ignore and discount this inner voice. The ironic thing is the very thing that our intuition is telling us to do would improve our lives dramatically.
Some of the resistance we have is that if we act on our intuition we would transform our lives and some things may need to change that we may not have the courage to change. See if this is the case for you. Ask yourself—”What fear do I have if I would fully follow my intuition?” Are you willing to face this fear and make a decision to act on it despite these fears? You may want to connect with a friend and see if you can support each other with this. Talk about what your intuition has been telling you and what actions you need to take—and then support each other to follow through on this.
What is your intuition telling you today? Develop a plan to take action to do what it is telling you to do and watch your life dramatically transform!

Hi Shelley, I love your website! I attended Sonia Choquette’s workshop in NYC recently and there was one particular exercise that was very powerful. Each person was paired with a partner and one at a time, each partner would say aloud: ” If I wasn’t afraid I would…” while the other partner just listened. For 5 minutes each person said this phrase nonstop brainstorming all the things he or she would do in their life if fear wasn’t a factor. As I was doing this exercise, thinking that I had exhausted all possibilites, the most profound statement came at the end of my list…, which was to speak my truth no matter what! “If I wasn’t afraid, I would listen to my inner voice and be willing to face possible abandonment of others. I realized how I still wasn’t willing to take care of myself. I was still dependent on others to make me feel safe. I decided to sit with this and listen to my inner child. I wanted to listen to the very good reasons why she feels she needs others to make her feel safe. This is a big step. I’m staying with her and just listening. I’m beginning to heal on a deeper level. Amazing!

My intuition was telling be to check your blog today! It’s the first time I’m out here. I can’t wait to attend on of Sonia’s events myself. I recently read “Trust Your Vibes” and “Trust Your Vibes at Work” and cannot say enough about how confirming it was for me.
You might think “confirming” is an interesting word to describe my experience, but I’ve always had very strong intuition. Sonia’s books have helped me learn how to appreciate and honor that and allow it to work for me. I can say 100% that my life is easier when I let my intuition rule. This includes at work.
I could go on and on with examples, but if any of you have the least bit of interest, check out Sonia’s website http://www.soniachoquette.com I also have a set of her “Trust Your Vibes” oracle cards that help me when I’m hung up on an issue. The most commonly pulled cards tend to show I need to remember to take care of myself - mind, body, and spirit.
Thanks for sharing what you learned Shelley! You are such a blessing to this world!
